I WAS NEVER much of a gamer; maybe the occasional LAN gaming dates with my old school buddies once in a few months.

So we came across a reality room escape game that I thought was a pretty unique experience. Called TheEscapeArtist (T.E.A.), this place is tucked away on the eleventh floor of Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. There were 4 different gaming scenarios (or rooms) to choose from, and we went ahead with Carnivore’s Lair.

Each room had a storyline to go with it. Our mission, well as the name suggests, was to escape the room. My friends and I spent our Saturday locked up in a room, with an hour on the clock to make that escape. Basically, there were clues and puzzles hidden around the room which we needed to solve to retrieve codes that would lead us out. Searching for the code to unbreak the chains (yes two of us were chained to furniture) was one thing, but working in the dark and having to search for the key to the door was a whole other challenge too!

The interior design with its retro furnishing, “bloodstains” on the bedsheets and writings on the wall added to the gory atmosphere. Just so happened we visited on the weekend after Halloween. I was not a fan of the room being busked in eerie red lighting though.

I shall not say as to how we managed to get out of the room, that will be such a spoiler! But I must say that it’s a worthwhile experience for those looking for alternative entertainment on weekends. Great for corporate teambuilding retreats too!
