HERE’S WISHING all fellow occupational therapists out there a Happy Occupational Therapists’ Day!
We celebrate this special occasion on the 11th of January annually, to commemorate the founding of our national association. The Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists (SAOT) was established on 11th January 1975. Since then, SAOT has also become a member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
Separately, Occupational Therapy Day is celebrated on 27th October every year. It has become an important date in the occupational therapy calendar to promote and celebrate the profession internationally.
This year, I am heartened to see that SAOT has launched a series of YouTube videos to promote what we do as a profession. Apart from that, the videos also highlight the plight of the people we work with – from the disadvantaged to the ones with special needs, and their caregivers.
The following clip entitled Excuse Me aims to advocate for wheelchair-users and their needs in the community. I particularly like the phrase “Don’t let our convenience become someone else’s inconvenience.” Simple, yet a very powerful message.
